Building a reliable, and competitive vintage race bike does not happen overnight, but rather over the course of time. This feature will showcase the development of the 3D Racing Honda CL350, how long it has taken, and, so far, what I have learned.
Work starts on my 1972 Honda CL350 project bike in Papa Chiefs garage.
Part One > Acquiring your honda
This is perhaps the easiest step you will have in the entire process of building your vintage race bike. Honda 350’s were made by the barrel full, and can be found in many a forgotten garage corner, backyard, or porch.
Once you find your dream, you then spend the better part of a day dismantling the bike, right down to bare bones parts -- frame, front end, wheels, engine, tank, seat, etc. I used freezer bags to hold nuts and bolts in their respective groups, and indicated with a Sharpie marker on the bag what they were for. This makes it much easier to reassemble at some point in the future.
